How often should I clean my handgun?

This question is an age-old one and always leads to a passionate debate between gun aficionados. The issue of maintenance of a weapon is a delicate one and is often a very important question to ask in relation to the overall functioning and smooth operation of your weapon. If you own a gun and don’t clean it at the right times, you are being negligent and your gun may easily malfunction. To avoid this, it is crucial to understand how often your gun requires cleaning and that is what we will discuss here today.

The main reason as to why you need to clean your weapon is that if the metal gets exposed to moisture, which it inevitably is, then rust formulates on the surface of the metal and gradually wears away the body. If the rust forms inside the barrel of your gun, then there is no telling how that might affect the actual functioning of your weapon.

Now that we’ve established the fact that your weapon needs to be cleaned occasionally, we come to the most debated question that is how often you need to clean it. In our experience, most weapons should be cleaned after every three to four range trips, depending upon the number of rounds fired using the weapon.
